Girls Tournament Rules

Check in Procedures
Coaches or managers may check in teams. The entire team is not required to check in. Teams MUST check in at least one hour prior to their first game at the field.

Please bring a team roster and medical release form. Please have extra copies of team rosters available for games.

Volunteers

Teams need to provide a volunteer to help score keep and time keep games. Instructions provided.

Rules specific to high school girls (9-12th grade):

For the Star of the North Games tournament, all games will be played under NFHS  rules with the following exceptions:

– Games will be two 25 minute running time halves. Stop time for the last 2 minutes.

– 7 minute half time.

– Each team may take 1 timeout per half. We ask that teams use this discretion.

– Officials may call additional timeouts for water breaks due to heat and humidity.

– Tournament staff has discretion to adjust the schedule to shorten games, and to declare games complete if there are delays due to weather or tournament concerns.

– All other rules during the MSHSL varsity season will be enforced.

– Teams need to submit a copy of the team roster with jersey numbers to the scoring table prior to each game start.

– Players may only play for the team they are rostered on. Players may not move between teams including those teams that have two teams registered in the event.

Rules specific to middle school girls (7-8th grade):

For the Star of the North Games tournament, all games will be played under NFHS/MSSLax rules with the following exceptions:

– Games will be two 20 minute halves. Stop time for the last 2 minutes.

-There will be a 5 minute halftime.

– Teams are allowed one 1 minute time out halftime per half. Teams are asked to use these with discretion. Officials are allowed to call additional time outs for water breaks due to heat and humidity.

– Tournament staff has discretion to adjust the schedule to shorten games, and to declare games complete if there are delays due to weather or tournament concerns.

– All other rules during the MSSLax season will be enforced.

– Teams need to submit a copy of the team roster with jersey numbers to the scoring table prior to each game start.

– Players may only play for the team they are rostered on. Players may not move between teams including those teams that have two teams registered in the event.

– Modified Checking ONLY (checking allowed below the shoulder, in a downward and outward motion)

– 4 & 8 Rule to apply: If the winning team is ahead by 4 or more points, the losing team will get the ball on the draw. If the winning team is ahead by 8 or more points, the losing team will get the ball on the draw PLUS the winning team must complete 3 consecutive passes before shooting on goal.(Violation of this is a minor foul: Other team gets the ball at the site of the shot on goal and any goal would not count.)

– Umpires should blow the whistle upon the count of 3 for girls who cradle the ball in one position while be defended.

Tournament Format

– Each team will play a minimum of 4 games during the event. After pool play, the game schedule will be determined by pool-play results.

– Pool standing will be determined by the following:

1. Points (3 pts for a win, 1 for a tie, and 0 for a loss)

2. Head-to-head results

3. Fewest goals against

4. Most goals for

5. Coin flip

Medals

Medals will be awarded to the top three teams.

Ejections

If any player is ejected from the game, they must sit out the next event game but does not carry into the regular season.
